Guide to cheap astrophotography

Prime focus dSLR

This was taken with the dSLR mounted directly to the scope without an eyepiece and without a camera lens.

Although the moon image doesn't stand out as being any better than the other methods I feel given this method requires the minimum restrictions to light getting on to the cameras sensor (less glass) it should produce the best images of the feint objects like nebula.

The following is a quick shot of jupiter and a couple of its moons. I hadn't really planned this shot and it was about to go behind a tree, its actually a photoshop mix of 2 shots, one longer exposure that captured the moons but over exposed the planet itself, then this was mixed with a less exposed shot that has a better jupiter image.

I am very much looking forward to having another go at this when I can set it up properly and spend more time on it.

Here are my best attempts at M42, the great nebula in Orion. I am very much looking forward to improving these M42 shots. Knowing all that detail is there and I have to do the work and learn the skills to bring it out is a great challenge. If you want to know what I mean about detail have a look at some other photos on google images !!   (http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=m42+orion&tbm=isch )
